  Below is a list of the professional devleopment opportunities being offered to Havre Public School Teachers and Paraprofessionals for Professional Development Training.  Please check all the courses you would like to attend and click "Submit" at the bottom of the form.  This form will automatically register you for these classes.

When you register, please only register for yourself.  A list of the offerings with the courses you have checked will be emailed to the address you provide below.  If you do not receive an email within about 5 minutes, be sure to check the accuracy of your email address or check your SPAM filter.
 
SOME CLASSES ARE LIMITED IN SIZE!   If you register and find you can not attend, please contact Shelley Southworth at Robins - 395-8550.  She will remove your course registrations so that others may attend.  Thank you!

This session is for all teachers new to the District.
 
Topics include:  District overview, expectations for teachers, the mentoring program, Infinite Campus orientation, reports from the Business Office and the Director of Special Services.

Monday, August 9 - K-12 Teachers and Paraprofessionals - Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Verbal Skills - Part 1 - Presented by Jeremiah Nitz
 
Learn decision-making skills that match the level of your response to the risk of the crisis, focusing on the least-restrictive response to ensure the Care, Welfare, Safety, and Security of those in your care.  This includes recognizing the stages of an escalating crisis and learning evidence-based techniques to appropriately de-escalate student behavior. 
 
These evidence-based techniques have been successfully used for over 40 years and are recognized by national and international organizations.  NCI training emphasizes the physical intervention as a last resort and appropriate to the level of risk.

Teaching with Poverty in Mind is a workshop designed to extend participants' understanding of the impact of trauma and poverty on the brain and on pupil behavior and decisions.  Beyond examining how health and achievement overlap, Dr. Donna Miller will share action steps and environmental enrichment strategies that will assist in the re-tooling of the student's operating system.  We can help students rise above their struggle if we see them as possibilities, not as problems, and if we empower them with hope and learned optimism while providing a challenging curriculum.

Creating Culturally Responsive Learning Communities will breathe life back into your teaching.  The process begins with building community, cultivating certain student and teacher dispositions, nurturing social justice, leveraging the power of talk and dialogic exchange, using Cultural Identity Literature to build bridges and to normalize difference, and fostering a culture of civil discourse.  Join Dr. Donna Miller to discover some simple but not simplistic strategies for fostering culturally responsive learning communities.  Workshop participants will walk away with ideas that honor, respect, and use students' identities and backgrounds as meaningful sources for creating optimal learning environments.

We are so happy to be able to once again offer two days of transformational training with practical takeaways.  Dr. Berk has conducted seminars for a wide variety of organizations, including businesses, professional groups, school professionals, parent groups, and other venues.  By far, the strongest positive feedback that returns time after time from these groups is the practical nature of the material presented.  Although some theory may be discussed, the primary focus of all presentations is helping attendees with what they can do to facilitate rapid and effective changes!
