2025 AAPA/PAEA Preceptor of the Year Award Application


This award honors a preceptor who demonstrates exemplary service in the clinical education of PA students as a mentor, role model, and instructor; and furthers the image of PAs by exemplifying the PA profession's philosophy of providing accessible, quality healthcare.

Application Tips:

  • The deadline for completed applications, with all supporting documentation, is 11:59 p.m. EST on Monday, February 10, 2025. Applications and supporting materials received after this date will not be considered.
  • Be as complete as possible when answering the questions below.
  • Ensure all dates, organization names, committee titles, etc. are clearly and accurately stated.
  • Only electronic applications and supporting documentation will be accepted.
  • All materials and supporting documentation must be uploaded and submitted using the form below. 
  • No application will be considered complete at time of submission without all supporting documentation.

Preceptor of the Year Award Eligibilty:

  • Applicant must have been a preceptor for PAs in the previous calendar year (2024). 
  • Applicant must have served as a preceptor for three consecutive years.
  • Applicant must have precepted a minimum of three students during a three-year period. 
  • Applicants are not required to be PAs. If the applicant is a PA, then they must be a current fellow AAPA member in good standing. 
  • Applicant may not be a current AAPA, PAEA, or ARC-PA Board member or staff, or staff of an AAPA constituent organization at the time of nomination or award.

Summary of Professional and Volunteer Achievements

In a document no longer than two pages, respond to the following prompt in 1,200 words or fewer. Please upload your summary as a PDF.

Describe your professional achievements which demonstrate exemplary service to the PA profession and the community, and which further demonstrate the critical contributions of PAs to healthcare delivery by expanding access and providing quality care to the medically underserved. Include examples of challenges encountered and strategies employed to overcome these challenges. 

Describe your local, national, military, or international volunteer achievements as they relate to the award for which you are applying. Include when and where you have performed any volunteer patient education or health promotion activities outside of your practice. 

Provide evidence of a commitment to excellence in the clinical education of PA students as a mentor, role model and instructor. List when and where you have served as an active volunteer lecturer, clinical instructor, group leader, advisor/mentor for a PA program. Also list when and where you have served as a volunteer preceptor with PA students in your practice (rotations of four or more weeks).

Prompt 1: What challenges have you overcome in your personal or professional life, and what did you learn from those experiences?

Prompt 2: How do your background, identity, and personal interests impact how you serve your patients, your community, and the PA profession?


Letter(s) of Recommendation

Please provide no more than two, one-page letters of recommendation related to service on behalf of the PA profession. Letters of recommendation must be uploaded below and received with your application.

  • Letters should be addressed to the AAPA Awards Committee.
  • Letters of recommendation may come from anyone who is familiar with the applicant’s activities. Letter writers may not be current AAPA Board members or staff.
  • Letters of recommendation should specify in detail why the applicant is qualified for the award. Anecdotes illustrating outstanding service are helpful to the Awards Committee. Here are some examples:
    • Include evidence of service beyond routine work in the practice, hospital or academically
    • Describe the applicant’s personal sacrifice associated with serving patients and the community
    • Describe the applicant’s leadership qualities
    • Provide examples that demonstrate mutual respect for other health professionals, educators and support teamwork
    • Include activities of the applicant that have had a positive impact on the image of the PA profession
    • If applicable, include commendations, awards, medals and honors the applicant has received. 


Supporting Documentation

A maximum of two supporting documents that (when combined) total four pages in length may be included with your application. Examples include news articles, academic articles, documentation of other awards, or other relevant items.
