AAPA is seeking PAs to serve on the Governance Committee (GovCom) for a two-year term beginning July 1, 2025. The deadline to apply is January 31, 2025.
The GovCom exists to provide ongoing review and maintenance of AAPA’s bylaws and policies to ensure alignment with applicable nonprofit corporate statutes and governance best practices. The GovCom’s duties include: reviewing emerging corporate governance issues and practices, establishing consistent policies and procedures to bring parity to all AAPA elections, and reviewing Bylaws resolutions to ensure alignment with existing policies. For further information on the Commission's work, please see the 2024-2025 charges and 2024 report here.
The GovCom conducts its work year-round, which generally entails monthly conference calls with some work carried out via email. GovCom members should have a working knowledge of nonprofit governance and some prior familiarity with AAPA’s governing documents. GovCom members are also required to be neutral during the elections cycle and must recuse themselves from election matters if running for office.
Committee members who are PAs must also be a member of a constituent organization.
See the committee member roles and responsibilities document here. Questions about the committee application can be directed to governance@aapa.org.
