Distinguished Fellow Areas of Impact

Current Distinguished Fellows are now asked to submit this form to AAPA staff to indicate their preferred areas of impact to continue their commitment toward the work of AAPA and the PA profession.

While not a requirement for maintaining your Distinguished Fellow status, AAPA encourages all Distinguished Fellows to continue their volunteer efforts to further the profession and ensure AAPA is armed with the expertise and resources needed to ensure success.

Mentor: PAs and PA students of all career stages can benefit from your knowledge and experience as they further their career. Engage with one or more mentees by signing up as a mentor for AAPA’s mentoring program, Mentor Match. The obligation – time commitment, cadence of meetings, etc. – is up to you and your mentee to establish. Signing up makes you available for AAPA members to request your mentorship in a mentor directory.

Advocacy Influencer: Ensure that the voice of the PA profession is heard in the halls of Congress and participate in efforts to modernize and improve laws and regulations that impact PA practice.

Join AAPA’s Grassroots Advocacy and Information Network (GAIN), a nationwide network of PAs who are strengthening the future of the profession by building relationships with members of Congress and their staff. You will receive advocacy alerts from AAPA to mobilize and take action on PA priority issues.

Contribute to PA PAC, AAPA’s nonpartisan political action committee, the only federal PAC dedicated to advancing the PA profession. PA PAC increases the profession’s visibility in the halls of Congress and enhances AAPA’s ability to build longstanding relationships with federal legislators, contributing to AAPA successes on Capitol Hill.

Content Contributor: Personal stories are powerful! Share your unique journey with your fellow PAs and inspire PA students and pre-PAs. AAPA is always looking for PAs to feature in stories on News Central. Did you take an unusual path to PA school? Did you carve out your own leadership role? Do you have career expertise you’d like to share with other PAs? We’d like to talk to you. We also welcome your perspective in our new Areas of Practice Guide. This collection of tools and resources provides guidance on changing career directions or specialties and includes a section called Words From the Field with personal perspectives from PAs in each area of practice.

Research Volunteer: Support PA research as a research volunteer. There are many ways to get involved. You can serve as a peer reviewer for research grants, the AAPA-PAEA Research Fellowship application, and/or research at AAPA Conference. You can learn about opportunities to share research at AAPA Conference (after peer review); submissions are due at the end of the year prior to the Conference year. You can also serve as a Research CME Moderator to introduce a speaker, help them manage time effectively, and assist in their session evaluation. We are also looking for PAs who would like to share their experiences in clinical settings via PA Observations, our paid survey panel. You can participate in research that advances our understanding of PA roles, responsibilities, and value, as well as PA education. This survey panel also shares experiences with external researchers so PAs can be a visible profession within research.

Education Volunteer: Support continuing PA education as an education volunteer in a way that interests you. Help select CME for AAPA Conference as a Conference Grader. This is a two-week commitment in August where you, as a PA peer, will review conference submissions. Or present your expertise as a CME Speaker at AAPA Conference; submissions are accepted May-July in the year prior to the conference. You can also serve as a CME Moderator to introduce a speaker, help them manage time effectively, and assist in their session evaluation. Alternatively, there are opportunities to serve as a JAAPA Peer Reviewer, where you would peer-review JAAPA submissions.

PA Foundation Volunteer: Volunteers play a key role in the PA Foundation’s work. Their passion for service and for the PA profession enables the Foundation to implement core programming, grow its programs and resources, and fulfill its mission. The PA Foundation seeks volunteers to review and evaluate the applications it receives for its scholarship, grant, fellowship, and award programs. In addition, the Foundation’s Women in Philanthropy network, which works to engage and empower a diverse group of women with opportunities to collaborate and support the PA Foundation, seeks volunteers to assist with its activities.

AAPA Volunteer: AAPA needs your leadership, experience, and subject matter expertise. Within AAPA, there are several additional opportunities for Distinguished Fellows to impact the work of the organization by volunteering on task forces, work groups, and commissions, representing their state chapter in the AAPA House of Delegates, or running for a position on AAPA’s Board of Directors. It is also critical that the PA profession be represented in important external opportunities such as clinical guidelines development and policy discussions. We need Distinguished Fellows and their subject matter expertise to address the ever-widening range of issues affecting healthcare and other topics relevant to the AAPA Strategic Plan and the future of the PA profession.
