2025 Eugene A. Stead Jr. Lifetime Achievement Award Nomination


The Eugene A. Stead Jr. Lifetime Achievement Award is AAPA's most prestigious award, recognizing an individual for lifetime achievement that has had a broad and significant impact on the PA profession.

Stead Award Eligibility:

The AAPA Awards Committee administers the Eugene A. Stead Jr. Award of Achievement. Any AAPA member may submit a nomination to the Awards Committee. The committee reserves the right to not present the award in a given year should nominees not meet the considerations associated with this lifetime achievement award.

  • Nominee must have a completely unblemished career and personal record.
  • Nominee may not be a current AAPA Board member or staff, or staff of an AAPA constituent organization at the time of nomination or award.
  • PA nominees must be current AAPA fellow members or retired PAs who were previously an AAPA fellow member.

Application Tips:

  • The deadline for completed applications, with all supporting documentation, is 11:59 p.m. EST on Monday, February 10, 2025. Applications and supporting materials received after this date will not be considered.
  • Be as complete as possible when answering the questions below.
  • Ensure all dates, organization names, committee titles, etc. are clearly and accurately stated.
  • Only electronic applications and supporting documentation will be accepted.
  • All materials and supporting documentation must be uploaded and submitted using the form below. 
  • No application will be considered complete at time of submission without all supporting documentation.

Nominee Summary

In one page or less (in PDF format), describe the achievements of the nominee on behalf of the PA profession which, when viewed across the spectrum of his/her career, demonstrate a broad and significant impact on the PA Profession.

Begin with a one-sentence citation summarizing the nominee’s lifetime achievements. 

In the summary, include:

Evidence of exemplary recognition by all segments of the PA profession and by others:

  • How is this person well-known by the PA profession and well recognized by PAs of different generations?
  • Is this someone for whom there is “clear evidence” of his/her commitment to the PA profession? Is this someone whom everyone reveres?
  • What awards and forms of recognition has this person received during their career?

Evidence of exemplary commitment to the PA profession:

  • How has the nominee demonstrated long-term commitment to the PA profession over the span of their career?
  • How has the nominee spent time outside of their “day job” to promote the PA profession?

Evidence of championing the PA cause even when unpopular:

  • How has the nominee demonstrated risk in supporting and promoting the PA profession?
  • How has the nominee “rowed against the tide” or taken a stand that was unpopular in support of PAs?
  • How has the nominee pushed for the innovative use of PAs and championed the PA practice?

Evidence of time spent educating and influencing others in support of the PA profession:

  • How has the nominee advocated for the PA profession?
  • How has the nominee delivered the PA message across the healthcare sector, to the public, or to legislators/regulators/litigators?

Evidence of exemplary engagement with PA constituent organizations, individual PAs, and PA students:

  • How has the nominee engaged with constituent organizations of AAPA?
  • How has the nominee engaged with individual PAs across the span of their career?
  • How has the nominee engaged with PA students across the span of their career?

Evidence of exemplary communication skills:

  • What experience does the nominee have with publications and public speaking experience on the PA profession?
